Day 02: Explore Salalah

We kickstart the day with a visit to the resting place of Prophet Nabi Ayoub, who also features in the Bible as Prophet Job. The drive through the lush green pastures and spectacular mountains leads up to the quaint tomb that resonates with simplicity and spirituality.

We proceed to Mughsayl Beach to witness the phenomenon of blowholes as the sea-water gushes through perforations in the limestone rocks.

From the sea, we go through the picturesque winding roads in the mountains towards Wadi Darbat. Keep your cameras ready to capture the breath-taking view as we go along the Yemen border. Along the way, you will see Frankincense trees, a specialty of Salalah, adorning the landscape.

Post lunch, we take a ride back in time. First on the list is the ancient fishing village of Taqa, where we explore the 19th century Taqa castle surrounded by watchtowers and stone houses.

We drive to Khor Rori creek, the site of the ruined city of Samhuram and capital of ancient Arabia’s frankincense trade. Back in the day, this city established trade links by sea with various continents.

We visit Mirbat, the centre for trade in frankincense, horses and slaves in 9th century Dhofar.

We end the day with a visit to Dhofar’s best-known historic site, Bin Ali’s Tomb. This magnificent twin-domed structure is the resting place of Mohamed bin Ali who passed away in 1135 AD. This monument is a fine example of medieval architecture.

We return via the splendid Ayn Razat oasis teeming with biodiversity and natural underground springs.

Overnight stay at the luxurious Rotana Salalah.

Salalah is a mixed bag. It's an anomaly in the Middle East. But rest assured, it's a good anomaly.
Where else in the Middle East would you find lush green jebels, freshwater lakes and turquoise blue seas all in the same destination! Salalah albeit one of the lesser-known places of this region truly stands out due to its unique geography, culture and history. Frankincense cultivation and trade flourished here in the 13th century and traces of it still linger on. You will be fascinated with the stories around Queen of Sheba and the lost city of Ubar and be humbled by the tombs of Prophet Ayoub and great warrior Cheraman Perumal.

With such diverse experiences in store, Salalah will leave you intrigued.

For hotel bookings, this means accommodation vouchers issued. It is important that all vouchers are read carefully for additional supplier information.

PRICING

We offer you the flexibility to create your own holiday from the range of accommodation, airlines and other services available. Because of this wide choice, it is not possible to list every price on every date. A ‘from’ price is indicative of the lowest price available for the hotel or itinerary featured but this may vary depending on a number of factors such as your date of travel, number of people sharing a room, choice of accommodation and airline availability.

The rates at some hotels may vary depending on your residency and therefore it is important that you confirm the residency and nationality of everyone travelling at the time of quotation.

All prices are subject to availability and final confirmation from the supplier. Certain airlines permit us as their agent to hold reservations for a certain amount of time without tickets being issued. It is important to note that in these instances, the fares are only guaranteed until 2359 that day and we are not liable in the event of an increase. We, therefore, recommend that tickets are issued on the same day as the reservation. Some airports charge a departure tax, which is payable locally. These charges may not be claimed back from us.

Additional information on our supplier's pricing policy can be found in their booking conditions.

AMENDMENTS & CANCELLATIONS

All flight timings are provisional and subject to change. However you will be advised in advance of any major change as per your supplier's booking conditions. Only in extreme cases will an airline offer a full refund or date change should you not accept the change. On occasions your supplier may find it necessary to alter your any aspect of your holiday. Their policy regarding alterations is set out in their booking conditions.

Should you find it necessary to cancel or amend your holiday, please contact us without delay. Cancellations and amendments require written confirmation by the lead name in the party. Prior to making any changes, please verify any charges bearing in mind that these generally increase the closer you get to departure. In most cases, late cancellation will result in 100% charges.
